Earlier this year I decided to do something with all the wine corks I had collected over my college years. I was craving something crafty, and was determined to make something functional. At the same time, I had been unsuccessful at finding any good trivets/pot rests from the store.
And so, I made Wine Cork Trivets… voila!
Materials:
Wine corks- Be sure that the material is real cork instead of synthetic- synthetic corks are a spongy plastic material and will melt!
-18 corks for a large trivet, 8 for a small one
Staple Gun
Staple Gun
Glue (optional, but not necessary)
Directions:
Pair each wine cork with another, and place side-by-side.
Hold the pair of corks together and staple them so that they are as close as possible..
Staple each pair twice. You will have small gaps between the two corks, but this won’t diminish their effectiveness:
For a large trivet, continue in this pattern until you have 3 pairs stapled together, forming one long column.
For this blog entry, I decided to make a small trivet:
For this blog entry, I decided to make a small trivet:
This is a large trivet that I previously made with hot glue. The steps were the same, with the exception of an additional 1st step; I paired the wine corks with hot glue first, and then stapled the pairs together.
Here is what the finished small trivet looks like on the surface (I intentionally made my outer lines a little uneven):
