Camping Food
Camping is one of my husband’s and my favorite activities to do throughout the year. We started going each spring break when we first began dating, and we’ve gone every year since. Thankfully, as time has gone on we’ve begun taking more trips throughout the year. As a result, our camping food list has gotten a bit more elaborate, but I’d still say it’s pretty basic- no pancakes or tofu scramble quite yet!
While we would be content eating peanut butter banana sandwiches for every meal, I’ve enjoyed preparing a variety of meals to eat throughout our trip. We try to keep the clean up minimal, so we have meals that require very little on-site prep. If we have something that takes a while to prepare (e.g., chili, potatoes, etc) I’ll cook it at home first and store in a container so that when we’re ready to eat at camp, all we have to do is heat the meal up.
To date, our cooking tools are: a knife, spatula, cutting board,
Coleman 1-Burner Stove , a pot and a pan.
Here is a list of the foods we typically have while camping:
*Granola Cereal with Almond Milk:
*Fresh Fruit- Bananas, apples, oranges, melons, grapes
Lunch:
*Bean Salad (recipe coming soon)
*Sandwiches “Sammies”:
Dinner:
*Veggie Dogs- topped with onion, relish, ketchup, mustard
*Baked Potatoes- with vegan butter, chives, etc
Wrap in heavy-duty foil and immerse in embers next to fire
for 45min-1hr until potatoes are soft. Open foil and season.
Expedite process by boiling potatoes at home and then
warming them up by using the method above.
Follow directions for baked potatoes above.
Snacks:
*Fresh Fruit- Oranges and apples
*Fresh Veggies- Carrots, Celery, Cucumber
*Cheese Dip with veggies, crackers, or chips:
Drinks:
*Water
*Coconut Water
*Hot tea
*Juice
Dessert:
*S’Mores… Vegan S’Mores: To-die-for-delicious.
These make those cheap animal-product-filled s’mores taste like plastic.
This brand of marshmallow is Sweet and Sara
I have been raving about these every since we got back
(and I might’ve just made an online bulk order for their toasted coconut marshmallows)
… swoon!
