After cleaning and drying the plate and goblet, I coated them with a brown paint+primer spray. I made sure to let the paint dry between each coat, and coated them about 3 times or until the paint was even.
Then, once everything was dry, I glued the plate to the base of the goblet with liquid nails. I was debating whether to keep the goblet right-side-up or turn it upside down. Either would’ve worked, but I liked the look of the goblet upside down, so that the stand had a wider base.
Next, I sprayed a few coats of clear lacquer to give the stand a shine. This has also made the stand super simple to clean.
Be sure to wash the stand once thoroughly before use.
Do not place food directly on stand, since the paint is NOT non-toxic. I always place a piece of wax paper or card stock paper on the top of the stand so that my food does not touch the paint surface.
