Dukkah (Duqqa, Dukka) is is an Egyptian mixture of herbs, spices, and nuts (usually hazelnuts). It is typically used as a dip with bread that has been basted with oil and eaten as an hors d’œuvre. I enjoy using walnuts in the mix, but you can use any nuts of your choosing.
This mix is so simple and easy to make. I’ll make a batch and use it over several months. It’s an easy appetizer to have on hand and a great mix to have in your pantry.
Try tossing Dukkah into a savory salad with grilled tempeh, over pasta and veggies, or into your pizza. I like to put the dukkah into a small dish of garlic oil to dip bread into as an appetizer.
*For the olive oil dip, I use 4 Tbsp oil with 1 Tbsp dukkah mix. You might also enjoy brushing bread with oil first and sprinkling the mix over it.
Dukkah Mix
2 Tbsp Sesame seeds
2 Tbsp dried Onion
1 tsp ground Coriander
1 tsp ground Cumin
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp ground Black Pepper
1/4 c Walnuts, finely chopped
Stir ingredients together and pour over your dish, dip, or side.
Store in an airtight container.
